Wimmer Communities is well known for giving back to our community in many ways throughout the year. “Wimmer Cares” collects food, paper goods, and toys annually, to name just a few. Click here to learn more about Team Wimmer community involvement.
But on an even deeper level, many of our team members volunteer on an individual basis. We’re the “doers” in the larger community. This month we are featuring the volunteer spirit of three of our colleagues.
Lisa Fix, Project Coordinator
Lisa will be celebrating her 6-year anniversary at Wimmer Communities in June of this year. When she’s not working hard on Facilities projects, she is a volunteer event director for the non-profit Paintings for Pediatrics. This all-volunteer organization is dedicated to raising money to fight back against childhood cancer. One of their projects is to provide art supplies to children and families affected by pediatric cancer to help them express themselves through art. At the organization’s annual gala event, these paintings are auctioned off to raise funds to support their mission.
Sixty percent of the funds raised during the annual gala and other yearly events is donated to families affected by childhood cancer to assist with their everyday living expenses. The remaining 40% is donated to organizations such as the MACC Fund in support of pediatric cancer research.
If you or any of your family members have been affected by childhood cancer and you would like to get involved in painting, reach out to Lisa directly. If you are interested in donating, sponsoring, volunteering, etc. please visit the Painting for Pediatrics website at www.paintingsforpediatrics.com or reach out to Lisa directly.
Angie Valdez, Construction Administrative Assistant
Angie has worked at Wimmer Communities for ten years. During that time, she became aware of the need for dog walkers at HAWS (Humane Animal Welfare Society) in Waukesha. For years now she has loyally shown up on a weekly basis to walk her furry friends. Some of the dogs she walks have had bad experiences with humans in the past and Angie sets out to redeem the human race by slowly and gently gaining their trust. She walks and plays with any dog she is assigned, but because of her experience, she is often given the most challenging cases. Because HAWS is a no-kill shelter, some dogs wait for Angie week after week after week, while others may only be there for a week and are quickly adopted and off to a loving home. We asked Angie if she is ever tempted to adopt a dog and she said, “Oh yes,” but she is unable to have a dog in her home. So, the dog-lover who can’t have her own dog has found a loving way to give back to our community and get her dog-fix, all at the same time.
Angie encourages anyone hoping to adopt a dog to visit HAWS at 701 Northview Road in Waukesha. Thank you for your contribution to the lives of dogs in need, Angie.
Sam Hyatt, Property Manager – Foxhaven Apartments
Over the past five years, Sam has worked his way up the ladder of success at Wimmer Communities from Leasing Consultant to Assistant Manager, to his present position as Property Manager of Foxhaven Apartments. But that’s not all he has been up to. In his time away from work, Sam generously shares his many talents in multiple volunteer capacities at Discover Church in Oak Creek. He contributes his numerous musical talents by overseeing the youth music program, playing guitar and keyboard, and singing in the adult music program. Sam also volunteers his time as a youth sponsor, preaches in youth services, leads a weekly high school small group, and teaches Sunday School.
At Wimmer Communities, when we seek out volunteers for our various charity endeavors, we often utilize the motivational phrase, “Be a part of the change you want to see in your community!” Sam Hyatt is the personification of this encouraging expression and we’re so happy to have him on our team.
