Fun Activities for Milwaukee Seniors
< Back to blogSummer is the time of year for wonderful weather and ample outdoor activities for all ages. Our Milwaukee apartments are surrounded by a plethora of opportunities to make the most of the season no matter your age, but some activities are especially well-suited to the senior set. Here are our top three favorite summer activities for Milwaukee-area senior citizens.
Cook Farm-Fresh Fare
Milwaukee has a rich reputation for its vibrant farmer's market scene, making it an excellent location for seniors to shop, cook, and serve up delicious local dishes this summer. Check out the Westown Farmer's Market, the Milwaukee Public Market, or the South Shore Farmer's Market and be greeted with an abundance of fresh, local fare. Head home and cook up a familiar favorite for friends and family or experiment with local ingredients to create something new. Each week, shoppers will be greeted with a unique selection of fruits, herbs, cheeses, and more, so the opportunities for dishing up tasty summer fun are endless.
Enjoy an Outdoor Concert
Summers in Milwaukee bring over 200 outdoor live music events hosted by the Milwaukee County Parks Department. These events are ideal for all ages and feature a variety of performers from contemporary beats to nostalgic tunes of yesteryear. The parks department has a full calendar of upcoming outdoor events that are sure to please all ages as well as offer an excellent opportunity to make the most of the pleasant weather while socializing outdoors with friends.
Commune with Nature
Communing with nature is a timeless–and ageless–experience and summer in Milwaukee is the perfect time to do it. Senior nature lovers should head over to Boerner Botanical Gardens to partake in its wide-ranging plant collection, rock gardens, and herb and rose gardens. The gardens also feature a variety of special events and programs, including horticulture workshops and guided tours that may be of special interest to the older set. As a bonus, seniors aged 60-plus are granted a discounted entrance fee of just $6. The gardens offer a lovely natural setting for leisurely walks and photography opportunities or check out local trails for other locations to get in touch with nature this summer season.
