Best Holiday Drink Recipes: Wimmer Staff Picks
< Back to blogWe all know that Accountants work their assets off all year long,
but what do they do for fun over the holidays?
We decided to ask the Wimmer Communities Accounting Department
to share their Best Holiday Drink Recipes and they delivered in a big way!
Sally D. – Accounts Payable/Payroll Specialist
Sally has been a Wimmer Communities team member for over 30 years! Maybe the key to professional longevity is her annual holiday drink ritual, which she recently shared with us. Sally told us that when the holidays roll around, she always thinks of “White Russians” because they are so festive. A White Russian is made of 1-ounce of good vodka, ¾-ounce of Kahlua, and 1-ounce of cream. Slowly savor this creamy coffee-flavored drink and soon visions of sugarplums may dance in your head!
Debra C. – V.P. of Operations
Brandy Slushes are Deb’s special holiday treat. Not only are they easy to make, but you can prep them ahead of time and keep them in the freezer until you’re ready to serve.
Start by boiling 7-cups of water and 2-cups of sugar until the sugar dissolves. Next, add one 12-ounce can of lemonade frozen concentrate and one 12-ounce can of orange juice frozen concentrate. Let the mixture cool. Add 2-cups of brandy and stir well. Pour the mixture into a repurposed plastic ice cream tub or “Tupperware” and freeze for at least several hours. When you’re ready, serve one ice cream scoop of slush in a drinking glass. Fill the remainder of the glass with 7-up. Enjoy!
Connie L. – Controller of Wimmer Brothers Realty
Connie has been making her own wine for about 9 years now. Not only that, but she grows the fruit for the wine in her own backyard. Connie harvests strawberries and blackberries over the summer and pops them in her freezer until it’s time to make the wine. When she’s ready, she uses a kit to make homemade wine. And voilà, one and a half years later she has wonderful red wine to be enjoyed over the holidays and to share with friends and family as gifts.
Stacey S. – Property Support Specialist
Mocktails are more popular than ever these days. Stacey shared a classic non-alcohol drink recipe that the whole family will enjoy – Orange Sherbet Punch. It’s easy to make and the pale orange color is festive in any style cocktail glass.
Start by softening one gallon of orange sherbet in a punch bowl. Add 1-quart of chilled pineapple juice and stir well. Add 1-liter of any lemon-lime soda, such as sprite or 7-up. Stir the soda until the sherbet is almost dissolved. Serve immediately. For a change of pace, try this recipe with rainbow sherbet.
Julia – Accounts Payable/Payroll Assistant
Julia’s holiday drink of choice has as much to do with aesthetics as taste. She loves a cranberry margarita with colorful, festive garnishes. Start by sliding a lime wedge around the rim of your glass, then tilt the glass into a plate of kosher salt or sugar. Add 3-ounces cranberry juice, 1-ounce lime juice, 1-ounce triple sec, and 2-ounces of tequila to a cocktail shaker. Shake well. Strain into a glass of cubed or crushed ice. To garnish, use whole fresh cranberries, lime slices, and a sprig of rosemary. Enjoy your gorgeous, tasty cocktail!
